SalamFest

Giving visitors the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a new culture and experience, SalamFest is coming to the Australian Pavilion on 12 and 13 March!

Melbourne born SalamFest is an annual cultural event showcasing the depth and breadth of Muslim arts, culture, food and spiritual traditions in Melbourne as a creative response to Islamophobia.

On the 12th and 13th of March, the Australian Pavilion forecourt will be graced with performances from:

Renaud Gay, a French performer and composer who focusses on the contemporary use of traditional instruments. Renaud believes traditional instruments are the living memories of mankind’s cultural heritage, with this main instruments being the Didgeridoo, Jaw Harp, the Rajasthani/Pakistani double flutes “Algoza/Satara” and Guembri.

Yassna (Jasna Dolic), a Bosnia and Herzegovina born Opera Artist and composer who has been performing and raising awareness of SEVDAH MUSIC since her arrival to Australia as a refugee.

With a global approach to his art and never-ending penchant for dance, Wahab Shah grew up in Sydney and trained in contemporary dance. One of the most sought after choreographers in the country, Wahab holds an esteemed international and local portfolio. His technique embeds contemporary Sufi dance work in Pakistan communities and beyond.
