Power Meri
Power Meri (Powerful Women) is a multi-award-winning documentary shot in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Australia that tells the story of PNG’s groundbreaking women’s rugby league team, their journey to the world cup, and the broader social impact of women playing male-dominated sports.
The film has screened in film festivals, cinemas, communities and educational settings around the world, prompting discussion about the role of sport in driving gender equality, and the treatment and status of women. The screening and Q&A at the Australian Pavilion forecourt at 1630 on Tuesday 8 March 2022 (International Women’s Day) will feature one of the stars of the film, inaugural PNG Orchids captain, Cathy Neap and the film’s director, Joanna Lester, who have travelled to Expo 2020 from PNG and Australia respectively.
