Environmental Sustainability for an Ageing Population
Australia Pavilion looks into a sustainable future with this panel.
In developed countries, like Australia, one in 10 Australians over the age of 65 is living with dementia. 3 in 10 of the over 85s have some form of dementia or cognitive impairment. This results in huge demand for new high-performance infrastructure, like multi-story construction. Already, the global infrastructure is growing at an extreme rate. An example is the amount of concrete we use, which is equivalent to building 25 thousand of the world tallest buildings, the Burj Khalifa, every year. To sustain this growing population of people with special needs, our homes need a radical rethink both in designing new houses and in retrofitting new solutions to existing houses.
We look forward to diving into these issues and discussing these crucial topics for a sustainable future
